About As the Crow Flies
Hello, I'm Angela Crow, owner and designer here at As the Crow Flies. I am a naturalized Portlander with a background in biology, environmentalism, and the arts. I started this company as a simple one-woman gardening business in 2003, after a two-year apprenticeship with a landscape contractor.
Working on so many landscape sites in those first years, I quickly realized that bad design is at the root of just about every garden frustration that exists! And a primary cause of the overuse of water, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers, which I am committed to eliminating.
So I went back to school, earning an AAS degree in Landscape Technology with a certificate in Landscape Design in 2010. As the Crow Flies grew, we added design into the mix, and continued to deliver high quality landscape work until 2021.
Now it has transformed again-- offering expanded design and consultation services exclusively. With 20 years of professional landscape care to draw upon, I have a very pragmatic approach, always aware that design choices are at the foundation of a well-functioning landscape, and the basis of every truly enjoyable outdoor haven.
I am deeply interested in permaculture, and I try to balance this approach with the beautiful aesthetics that my clients often want to see. It is entirely possible to have both!
